Anastacia stared at the half-written letter in front of her. Her handwriting had always been neat, but towards the end it had turned into a scrawling mess. She couldn't concentrate for long enough to sort out her thoughts, never mind put them down on paper. "I just want him to know that I'm sorry," she replied softly, "surely a letter can't do any harm?"

Amelia was silent. Padding across the room to peer over Anastacia's shoulder, she frowned. It was a little frown that made her look thoughtful, brows knitted, and lips pulled downwards. Then she stood back, ran a hand through her hair, and sighed.
